When you are a child, one's viewing habits are entirely dependent on one's parents. This came to light in a serious way last night when Mama and Papa Smurf watched Utopia with me (this year they have seen more Doctor Who than in previous years).

The ABC is advertising The Shakespeare Code as Ten'n'Martha's "first date". My mother, bless her, hasn't met Ms Jones yet and asked if the Doctor's in love with her now.

Our only source of indoor heating is a firebox, and my father collects the wood we burn on a permit from areas the logging trucks have already been through. They're only allowed to get the trees that have already fallen down, and there is some competition to get the best stuff. My father's computer died yesterday.

The main surprise, really, was that it hadn't died years ago; it is an ancient AppleMac that was already outmoded when we purchased it in 1995 (and is apparently rated in the 10 worst Macs ever built, yay us).
